As part of an experiential learning initiative, an engaging outdoor activity was conducted for students of Class 4 and 5 to help them understand the challenges faced by children living in different geographical regions—mountains, deserts, riverbanks, and villages—while trying to reach school.
The playground was creatively transformed into an obstacle course that simulated the physical difficulties students from these areas might face. Activities included balancing beams, climbing structures, uneven pathways, and jumping hurdles to mirror the kinds of terrain children in remote or difficult areas navigate daily.
The children enthusiastically participated in each task, gaining a firsthand experience of the effort and resilience it takes for many children across India to access education. Through this simulation, they were able to relate to and empathize with their peers from rural and remote regions.
This activity concluded with a thoughtful discussion, during which the students expressed their gratitude for having access to schools with well-built infrastructure and easy accessibility in their city. It was a moment of realization and appreciation that helped cultivate empathy and awareness among the students.
The activity was not only educational but also a fun and memorable way of reinforcing the value of education and the privileges of urban living.
