Heritage & History

A Trust Rooted in 1941

The Salwan Education Trust (SET) is a name greatly revered in the field of education. It was established in 1941 at Peshawar by Late Pandit Girdhari Lal Salwan — a great patriot who dedicated his life to the service of the nation and became a saviour to thousands of refugees during the Partition. His belief was simple yet revolutionary: every child, regardless of background, deserves quality education.

Education for All

Driven by the ideology of “Education for All,” Pt. G. L. Salwan established a network of institutions — the Salwan Sanatan Dharam High Schools (1942), Salwan Boys School (1949), Salwan Girls School (1952), and Salwan Public School (1953). Today, eight educational institutions operate under the aegis of the Trust, each striving for nation-building with unparalleled zeal.

In Memoriam — Shri Shiv Dutt Salwan

Son of Late Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwan, Shri Shiv Dutt Salwan (1929–2024) devoted his life to expanding the Trust’s reach, deepening the founding promise of “Education for All” with each passing decade.

“Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our young minds. Let us nurture, inspire and empower them to shape a brighter future.”

Vision & Mission

Our vision is to nurture empowered young citizens with universal values.

Our mission is to develop self-directed, confident learners equipped with diverse competencies — guided always by our motto, “Service Before Self.”

Service Before Self

Our motto — “Service Before Self,” echoing the Trust’s crest inscription “Tamso ma Jyotirgamaya” — is not merely words on a crest. It is a living practice, reflecting a commitment to serve others willingly, graciously, and selflessly, woven into the daily life of every child, teacher, and staff member.

The Rising Sun

The Salwan logo — The Rising Sun — is a manifestation of the school’s cherished philosophy of “Service Before Self.” Just as the sun rises each day to give light without expectation of return, it reminds our community that true greatness lies in what we give, not what we receive.

Our Core Values

Salwan Junior School has in place a set of core values that underpin the school’s vision and aim at building the overall personality of every child. Together they shape how our students learn, relate, and grow.

  • We raise the bar every time. In the classroom, on the field, in service to our communities. Mediocrity is never the standard; mastery and continuous improvement are. Every teacher, student, and staff member measures success not by effort alone, but by impact and growth.

    Examples in action

    • Student: Through dedication, perseverance, and a passion for learning, students excel on national and international platforms while participating in STEAM, Coding & Robotics, SDG projects, public-speaking activities, educational excursions, and inter-school competitions.
    • Teacher: Teachers transform everyday learning into meaningful experiences through hands-on activities, storytelling, projects, and real-life connections. By continuously refining their practice, they inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for lifelong learning.
    • School Leadership: The Head of School, coordinator, and teachers review learning outcomes, celebrate achievements, and implement innovative strategies that strengthen academic excellence and holistic development for every child.
    • Whole School: Every classroom experience, club activity, sports event, assembly, community initiative, and project-based learning opportunity encourages children to think critically, collaborate confidently, and continuously raise their own standards.
  • We take responsibility. For our actions, our learning, our teams, and our results. In a world where change is constant, we run toward responsibility as opportunity. No problem is “someone else’s problem.” We act like owners, not passengers.

    Examples in action

    • Student: Students take ownership of classroom responsibilities and participate actively in assemblies, clubs, projects, competitions, and educational excursions while reflecting on their progress.
    • Teacher: Teachers take responsibility for every child’s growth by adapting teaching strategies, providing timely support, and creating inclusive learning experiences.
    • School Leadership: The Head of School, coordinator, and teachers respond proactively to feedback, strengthen teaching and learning practices, and ensure every decision supports student well-being and development.
    • Whole School: Students, teachers, and support staff work together with commitment, accountability, and mutual respect, carrying every initiative through with purpose and excellence.
  • We act with awareness that our school is part of a larger whole. Our neighbourhood, our city, our nation. We show up as proactive citizens who serve, volunteer, and build. Our community engagement is not symbolic; it is how we learn leadership and empathy.

    Examples in action

    • Student: Students participate in Swachhata Pakhwada, Van Mahotsav, Earth Day, community service, donation drives, international SDG projects, and awareness campaigns.
    • Teacher: Teachers integrate empathy, environmental stewardship, and responsible citizenship into learning through plantation drives, cleanliness initiatives, community outreach, and nationally significant days.
    • Parent & School: Parents participate in classroom engagements, workshops, celebrations, and school initiatives, strengthening the home–school connection.
    • Whole School: Neighbourhood cleanliness drives, donations for the underprivileged, Say No to Plastic campaigns, tree plantation, and climate-action programmes help children become thoughtful changemakers.
  • We embrace curiosity, experimentation, and smart risk-taking. Innovation is not limited to technology; it means finding better ways to teach, learn, and operate. We reward ideas that simplify, elevate, or expand opportunity.

    Examples in action

    • Students: Students apply learning to real-world challenges, from designing a low-cost water purifier using bajra to presenting entrepreneurial pitches on environmental conservation.
    • Teachers: Teachers use generative AI to create visual Mathematics problems, develop inclusive resources, design age-appropriate teaching aids and puppets, and integrate technology meaningfully.
    • School Leadership: Academic leaders share future-ready practices on authentic assessment and purposeful technology use at global platforms including the Microsoft Global Educator Fellows Meet, BETT Asia, and Principal forums.
    • Whole School: Maker activities, experiential learning, excursions, club engagements, technology-enabled classrooms, and creative showcases inspire curiosity, confidence, and a growth mindset.
  • We believe growth is lifelong. We reflect, seek feedback, and adapt, personally and institutionally. Every classroom is a lab for improvement.

    Examples in action

    • Teacher: Teachers engage in capacity-building workshops, collaborative planning, reflective practice, lesson observations, and training programmes, bringing new ideas into their classrooms.
    • Student: Students maintain portfolios, reflect on their learning, set personal goals, and use teacher feedback to improve their skills and confidence.
    • Admin: School leadership facilitates professional development, shares best practices, reviews student outcomes, and supports teacher collaboration.
    • Community: Parents and Managing Committee members enrich the school through Teachers’ Day celebrations, Independence Day programmes, grandparents’ read-aloud sessions, workshops, and shared learning opportunities.
  • We earn trust through honesty, fairness, and empathy. We respect diverse voices and perspectives, and create safe spaces to speak and learn. Discipline is not about control; it’s about respect for oneself and others.

    Examples in action

    • Student: Students practise honesty, respect, and responsibility through collaborative learning, classroom duties, buddy systems, and value-based activities.
    • Teacher: Teachers create safe, inclusive, and nurturing classrooms through differentiated instruction, positive reinforcement, and social-emotional learning.
    • Admin: School leadership promotes transparency, fairness, ethical decision-making, child safety, and an inclusive environment where every community member feels valued.
