Life at Salwan

At Salwan Junior School, instruction goes well beyond textbooks. The foundation of holistic development is co-curricular activity — dance, music, art, sports, clubs, life skills, and student leadership — where every young Salwanian finds a passion to call their own.

The Bedrock of Holistic Development

A plethora of activities help our young learners develop their latent talents and an appreciation for different forms of art. Dance, music, fine arts, and sport widen academic horizons and shape a child’s whole personality.

Dance

Dance helps young Salwanians move in harmony and express their feelings through graceful movement — building self-discipline and focus. Specialised training is offered in Kuchipudi, Indian folk dances, semi-classical, and western dance.

Music

A universal language that builds confidence and connects children to other cultures. Students explore pitch, rhythm, tempo, and song form through Indian classical music, Hindustani vocal, semi-classical, and instrumental coaching.

Fine Arts

Inventive minds are fostered by art, which also develops teamwork, self-worth, linguistic and motor abilities. The freedom of expression is combined with aesthetic enjoyment for aspiring artists.

Sports

Physical activity builds friendships, teamwork, and self-esteem. Students take part in games and drills that teach fair play, self-discipline, and time management.

Sports and Fitness

Sports

Salwan Junior School provides safe, age-appropriate sports infrastructure so every child can play, move and grow with confidence.

Fitness for everyone

Every class has three fitness periods a week: general fitness, PT and athletics. Together, they build strength, coordination and a lifelong habit of movement.

A sport of their own

In Classes 1 to 5, children take it further. Every week, two hours are set aside for the Sports Club Activity, where they choose a sport they genuinely enjoy and train under the mentorship of specialised coaches, not just supervision. Coaches take responsibility for their steady progress and give them the chance to represent the school in competitions at the district, interschool and zonal levels.

The choice is wide, indoors and outdoors: Table Tennis, Chess, Judo, Taekwondo, Badminton, Gymnastics, Power Yoga, Rope Skipping and more.

Community Service

Grooming Responsible Citizens

Through green initiatives, community outreach, and environmental awareness campaigns, students learn that education carries a responsibility to give back. The school has partnered with NGO Goonj for relief-material collection and community support.

As part of the NCERT and UNODC RiseUp4Peace initiative, children lead Sustainable Development Goal projects — growing into young SDG Warriors who take first-hand ownership of leading change in their communities.

Life Skills

Skills for Everyday Life

Life skills help children find new ways of thinking, solve problems, and take responsibility for their actions. The school follows the World Health Organization’s framework of ten core life skills, woven into everyday teaching through activities, story narration, role-plays, and discussion.

Excursions

Educational visits across Delhi and beyond — including the Museum of Illusions, National Science Centre, Amrit Udyan, KidZania, Mogly Farms, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, and outings to Jim Corbett, Agra, and Jaipur — foster friendships, encourage independence, and build confidence in a safe environment.

Adventure Camps

Day camps combining fun-filled games and life-skills activities develop capacities, strengthen leadership, and build team spirit through engagement, excitement, and exploration.

Environmental Initiatives

Green campaigns and community outreach groom responsible citizens — including our partnership with NGO Goonj and the NCERT and UNODC RiseUp4Peace initiative, which develops young SDG Warriors.

Health & Well-Being

Special assemblies, workshops, and counselling sessions promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, alongside an annual health check-up by medical specialists.

Technology & Innovation

A Microsoft Elevate Showcase and Adobe Disha School

Technology is woven meaningfully across subjects in the Primary Wing, reflecting the school’s recognition as a Microsoft Elevate Showcase and Adobe Disha School. Young learners create, code, and tinker — connecting classroom concepts to the real world. From time-bound online assignments and quizzes to collaborative digital-design projects, students build strong foundations in AI and digital literacy.

Coding with Scratch & Physical Computing

Children learn sequencing, loops, and problem-solving through block-based coding in Scratch. The Coding & Robotics Club extends this work with sensors, electro-mechanical kits, and microcontrollers.

AI Literacy

Age-appropriate introductions to artificial intelligence and digital creation tools build early fluency, while teachers use generative AI to create personalised, differentiated learning material.

100% Certified Educators

Every member of our teaching faculty holds an internationally recognised Innovative Educator Expert designation, bringing cutting-edge pedagogy into daily classroom life.

Student Leadership

Learning to Lead, Learning to Serve

Leadership at Salwan Junior School is earned through responsibility, not title. From the Student Council to the podcast studio and SDG projects, children take charge of initiatives, represent their peers, and discover the confidence to lead with empathy.

01

Student Council

Council members take on key roles in the day-to-day running of the school — discipline, systems, projects, and special events — building organisation, teamwork, and accountability.

02

House Leadership

Each house is led by a Senior Prefect, a Prefect, and Marshals drawn from every class, who maintain discipline and rally their house through inter-house competitions.

03

Podcasts & Projects

Students run the school podcast studio, which has produced over 250 episodes to date. Student leaders also document the flora and fauna on campus, taking real ownership of their surroundings and generating awareness.

04

SDG Warriors

Through the RiseUp4Peace project and community drives with NGO Goonj, students lead Sustainable Development Goal initiatives — turning learning into action beyond the classroom.

House System

Four Houses, One Spirit

Children from Classes I to V are distributed across four houses, each named after a great leader whose virtues are benchmarks of commitment and selfless dedication. Inter-house competitions, assemblies, and cultural programmes nurture leadership, teamwork, and enthusiasm. Each house is led by a House Marshal and prefects from the Student Council who maintain its discipline.

Gandhi House

Named for the apostle of non-violence, whose life is a benchmark of truth and selfless service.

Nehru House

Named for the architect of modern India, whose vision championed learning, science, and the young.

Tagore House

Named for the poet-educator whose ideals celebrate creativity, harmony, and the joy of learning.

Vivekananda House

Named for the philosopher-monk whose call to strength and character inspires every generation.
