Safety & Well-being

School Child Safety Policy

This page sets out how Salwan Junior School, Naraina Vihar keeps every child safe, and how parents can raise a concern. We request all parents to read it and to talk to their child about the key points.

01

Child Protection Policy

Every child has the right to feel safe, respected and protected at school.

  • The policy applies on the school campus, on school transport and during all school trips, events and activities.
  • All staff, visitors and vendors are expected to follow the school’s child-safety code of conduct.
  • Visitors sign in at the front office and are not permitted to move around the campus unaccompanied.
  • At dispersal, children are handed over only to parents or persons authorised by them.
  • Any concern about a child’s safety or well-being is reported promptly to the Head of School or a committee member.
  • Children are treated with dignity, care and confidentiality.
  • Parents are informed when appropriate and in accordance with applicable law.
02

POCSO and Child Safety

Protecting every child from sexual offences.

  • The school follows the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, which protects every child below 18 years of age from sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography.
  • Reporting is mandatory. Under the Act, any adult who knows of, or suspects, such an offence against a child must report it to the police or the Special Juvenile Police Unit. Failure to report is a punishable offence.
  • Concerns can be raised by students, parents or staff members, and the school refers every such matter to the appropriate authorities without delay, as required by law.
  • Children are heard sensitively, without blame, intimidation or repeated questioning.
  • The child’s identity is fully protected. The law does not permit the child’s name, address, school or any identifying detail to be disclosed.
  • Children are taught, in an age-appropriate way, the difference between safe and unsafe touch, and to say “No”, move away and tell a trusted adult.
  • Parents can also contact the Child Helpline 1098 (24 hours, free of charge) for help and advice.
03

Anti-Bullying Policy

Every child deserves kindness, inclusion and respect.

  • Bullying is repeated, hurtful behaviour such as hitting, name-calling, teasing, leaving someone out on purpose or sending unkind messages online.
  • Physical, verbal, social and cyberbullying are taken seriously.
  • Students are encouraged to speak to a trusted adult, and those who stand up for others are appreciated.
  • Reported incidents are documented and addressed appropriately.
  • Counselling, parent communication and disciplinary action may be used as needed.
  • The affected child receives support, while the student responsible is guided towards positive behaviour.
04

Grievance Redressal

Every concern deserves to be heard.

  • Step 1: Parents may first approach the class teacher.
  • Step 2: If the concern is not resolved, it may be taken to the Coordinator.
  • Step 3: Unresolved concerns can be escalated to the Head of School.
  • Concerns can be shared in person, through the school diary or by email to the school office.
  • Complaints are reviewed fairly and handled confidentially, as appropriate.
  • Responses are provided within the school’s communicated timelines.
  • Anonymous concerns are considered, although they may limit follow-up and investigation.
05

Cyber Safety

Building responsible and safe digital habits.

  • Media consent: the school takes a media consent form from parents. Photographs and videos of children are shared on the school website or social media only with the relevant permission from parents.
  • Students of Class III and above learn, at an age-appropriate level, about online privacy, strong passwords, keeping passwords private and never sharing an OTP with anyone.
  • Cyber safety workshops are held for students as well as for parents.
  • Cyberbullying and the misuse or sharing of photographs are addressed seriously.
  • Children are taught never to share personal information with strangers online, and to tell an adult if anything online makes them uncomfortable.
  • Tips for parents: use parental controls, keep devices in shared family spaces, check the age rating of apps and games, and set screen-time limits together with your child.
  • Parents are encouraged to maintain open conversations about their child’s online experiences.
06

Disaster Management

Preparedness today helps protect lives tomorrow.

  • Emergency evacuation routes and assembly points are identified and displayed.
  • Fire and earthquake safety drills are conducted as per the applicable safety plan, so that children know what to do and stay calm.
  • Fire-safety equipment is installed and maintained on the campus.
  • Staff members are briefed on evacuation, student headcounts and emergency communication.
  • School transport personnel receive relevant safety instructions for road emergencies.

Care and prompt attention when children need it.

  • First-aid support is available during school hours through designated personnel.

  • Emergency contact details and relevant medical information should be kept updated with the school.
  • Appropriate emergency medical assistance is arranged whenever necessary.
08
